The Daily Mailreports 20-year-old West Valley college student Samuel Bardwell was rushed to El Camino Hospital in Los Gatos, California, after sustaining injuries during a practice with his basketball team. His dad, Donald Bardwell, said his son has a history of anxiety attacks and hadn't taken his medicine, Klonopin, in a few days.
Samuel Bardwell, 20, a college athlete, collapsed at basketball practice with an apparent anxiety attack.
"The concerned father said he was prompted to pull out his phone and start recording after Keegstra accused him and his son, who she referred to as "...you people", of coming in for drugs.
"It's just heartbreaking, you know, because I've seen him go in and out of consciousness", Donald Bardwelltold the station.
Talking about what happened when father and son encountered Beth Keegstra, the elder Bardwell alleged that the ER doctor didn't bother to introduce herself when she entered, nor did she ask Samuel for his name.
"Are you dead, sir?" the physician continued, pointing at Bardwell.
"You are the least sick of all the people who are here, who are dying".
Efforts by ABC News to reach Keegsta for comment were not immediately successful.
Dr Beth Keegstra as filmed at El Camino Hospital in Los Gatos
The hospital said in its release that a patient "had an interaction with a physician whose demeanor was unprofessional and not the standard we require of all who provide care through El Camino Hospital".
In addition, the hospital responded to local television station KRON with an update saying that they've contacted their contracted provider and let them know to take this physician off their list of approved emergency room doctors.
El Camino Hospital has removed Keegstra from the work schedule, pending further investigation.
She berated him for being unable to sit up in the bed.
The patient says the doctor should be fired and can't understand how she was hired in the first place.
Since Donald Bardwell uploaded the video to Facebook, the clip has been shared over 106,000 times and been viewed by more than 4.2 million people. "Now don't try to tell me you can't move". "Sam played for maybe five minutes before he had to step out", Bardwell's coach, Scott Eitelgeorge, said.
After a bit of back-and-forth, Dr. Keegstra can be heard asking Samuel whether he was faking his anxiety attack to get narcotics. But even if it wasn't a "race thing", that would still be a problem, he said. I'm just so confused of why somebody would treat me like that, Bardwell said.
The doctor also states on her page that she has worked for the Mayo Clinic since 2013.
On more than one occasion, the Los Gatos ER doc ordered Samuel to get off the consultation table despite the boy telling her that he was unable to walk.
