Grandmother kills bobcat with bare hands after it attacks her
The incident occurred in Hart County, which is about 110 miles northeast of Atlanta.
"He's biting the daylights out of me and I'm thinking I can't let him go", Phillips said. "I saw the cat and I took a picture".
Seconds after snapping a picture, it attacked.
Phillips says she grew up in the country, where her father-in-law was once a trapper of bobcats. "When it got to [the] pole, it leaped on me..." // I grabbed it by the shoulders and pushed it back away from me.
The courageous grandmother didn't escape the attack unscathed, however, and is now recovering from a broken finger and several bite and claw wounds to her hands, arms, chest and legs. With her granddaughter sleeping inside, Phillips never screamed.
'They go for your jugular. when they can get the vein you're dead in a couple of minutes, ' she said, noting she was careful not to yell until the cat was subdued, because she didn't want her 5-year-old granddaughter to come outside. In this photo, a rescued bobcat waits to be fed at The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado, Oct. 20, 2011. The first round of shots has already cost her $10,000.
Dede Phillips said she had just put the bumper sticker "women who behave rarely make history" on the back of her new truck and wanted to snap a photo when she was confronted by the animal, reportsCBS affiliate WGCL-TV.
A Fundly campaign has been set up to raise money for Phillips' medical expenses.
It wasn't until the next day that she found out the bobcat tested positive for rabies, and she had her first round of rabies shots.
