Lucas Torreira: Arsenal in talks to sign Uruguay midfielder from Sampdoria

Arsenal close in on double signing to bolster back division

Arsenal agree £26.4m deal to sign Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira

The offseason is here for Arsenal FC, and that means the Gunners squad won't be reunited again until training camp commences in July.

All very philosophical, I'm sure you'd agree, but it does seem to suggest that the book of his Arsenal career will be getting closed, or at the very least, not read, before the summer is out.

Arsenal could conduct a medical for Lucas Torreira in Russian Federation rather than delay it until after Uruguay's World Cup campaign ends.

The 26-year-old has fallen out of favour at Arsenal following a string of injuries that have left him struggling for regular game time.

Arsenal are understood to be close to deals for both Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno and Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Strengthening the central midfield is reportedly priority number one this summer at the Emirates, and Torreira would certainly help to try and fill that need, but the very first signing of the Unai Emery era was a defender- former Juventus man Stephan Lichtsteiner, who moved over on a free.

It was suggested that the deal would be put on hold during the World Cup, but it seems the deal has been rushed through in order to travel allow the 22-year-old to Russian Federation with no distractions.

The Daily Mail report the Colombian could be sold to Mexican side Tigres.

Arsenal's head of recruitment Sven Mislintat had always been scouting for players in these areas even before Wenger left and there is now firm interest in Totteira, who is 22 and has a £22 million release clause.
