North America will host 2026 FIFA World Cup

North American trio beats Morocco to host 2026 World Cup

Canada has never held the competition, but it did host the 2015 Women's World Cup.

Ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, FIFA and long-term partner Coca-Cola devised the longest-ever route across the host country in the project's history especially for Russia.

FIFA member federations voted in favor of the North American bid over Morocco.

Mexico previously hosted the World Cup in 1970 and 1986. The U.S. hosted in 1994.

Chief among those is US President Donald Trump, whose "America First" approach might score well with his electoral base but may have made the United bid's task harder than it could ever have imagined. It's not clear how that would work with three countries as co-hosts.

"This is a monumental victory for the Concacaf family, as the United Bid exemplified the strong collaboration, beyond politics and business, that now exists in our region".

Although it would be the first tournament to be hosted by three nations, the vast majority of games will be held in the United States. But that is not carved in stone. "Our vision is of a world of opportunity for our Candidate host cities and for the global football community".

Either North America or Morocco will earn the right to host the 2026 World Cup when the vote is conducted at the FIFA Congress in Moscow.

210 members were present with 203 members entitled to vote.

Both bids will be given one last chance to make their case with 15-minute presentations in front of congress, at the Moscow Expocentre. They ended up at a refugee camp in Ghana, where Davies was born.

Noted sports writer Stephen Brunt called Wednesday's decision a "water-shed moment" for soccer in Canada during Sportsnet's broadcast, a sentiment echoed by former Canadian national team players Craig Forrest and Jason deVos. And I'm a proud Canadian citizen. We will meet somewhere, but I don't know where yet because they refuse to disclose the exact location.

Reed called Canada a "growing football nation that proudly welcomes people from all over the world". All of the proposed stadiums exist already. Today's American soccer fan has access to every major league in the world via television and internet viewing options, access that has helped expedite the growth of the nation's collective soccer IQ, as well as cultivating its hunger for the game at its best.

On paper, the two bids are worlds apart.

Just to add to the complexity, there was a third option for all voters: neither Morocco or United and we would have had to start a new bidding process. The bid also expects record ticket and hospitality revenue. Morocco planned to use 14 stadiums, nine of which had yet to be built with the other five due for renovation.
