Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he fully supports Donald Trump's efforts to get North Korea to relinquish its nuclear arsenal, but he won't respond to the USA president's latest barbs directed at Canada. "I own that; that was my mistake, my words". "That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did, and that comes right from Air Force One".

"I have made it very clear to the president that it is not something we relish doing, but it is something that we absolutely will do, because Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", Mr. Trudeau said during a press conference Saturday after Mr. Trump had already left the summit.

"That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did", said Navarro, referring to the joint press conference that is routinely held at the end of the annual events.

Trudeau, at a press conference at the end of the summit, had announced that Canada's retaliatory tariffs against the US would go into effect July 1.

European Council President Donald Tusk used Navarro's phrasing in a tweet backing Trudeau later Sunday.

At the G-7 summit, Trudeau doubled down and said, "Canadians will not be pushed around".

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow and trade adviser Peter Navarro drove the message home in an extraordinary assault on a close USA ally and neighbour.

Meanwhile, a White House official says the US will seek to replace NAFTA with bilateral deals with Canada and Mexico, if the talks fail. "He'll learn, he can't do that", Mr Trump said.

Mr Kudlow suggested Mr Trump saw Mr Trudeau as trying to weaken his hand before that meeting, saying the president will not "let a Canadian prime minister push him around ..."

"We finished the meeting, really everybody was happy, and I agreed to sign something", Trump said. The motion acknowledges the close and mutually beneficial relationship between Canada and the United States, but says they "strongly oppose" the "illegitimate tariffs" now imposed by our southern neighbours.

"I have a good relationship with Justin Trudeau", Trump told the crowd.

If the dispute can't be resolved, the two countries can take the matter to the World Trade Organisation, she said.

In response to the massive steel and aluminium tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, Canada which is one of the largest exporters of the same spoke out against the exorbitant duties. You know they put out a document, I don't know if you saw it.

Mr. Trump has threatened to bring down a 25-per-cent tariff on all Canadian-made cars and trucks, which would hit four times more exports and jobs than the metals tariffs.
