More evacuations ordered for the "416 Fire" north of Durango
No homes have been lost.
Todd Pechota of the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team, said the combination of weather and fuel conditions is creating significant potential for fire intensity and growth Sunday.
Additional evacuations were ordered Friday morning for 304 homes on the east and west sides of U.S. Highway 550 from Electra Lake Drive north to Hermosa Cliffs Road and the north end of Two Dogs Trail.
The blaze is burning north of Durango and fire officials said no one has been injured and no structures have been destroyed.
The 416 Fire in Colorado's La Plata County has burned 1,100 acres. Law enforcement officers began knocking on the doors of homes at 10 a.m. Friday on the east and west sides of USA 550 from Electra Lake Drive north to Hermosa Cliffs Road and to the north end of Two Dogs Trail. Stage 3 restrictions would result in a closure of the San Juan National Forest, said Kara Chadwick, San Juan National Forest supervisor.
The wildfire grew from 8,691 acres on Saturday morning to 16,766 acres on Sunday with 10 percent containment, Denver's KMGH reported. For now the fire's area is located west of the highway and hasn't crossed to the east side, which is more heavily populated, Bawden said.

A red flag warning was in place from 10 a.m.to 10 p.m. Sunday.
Monday is expected to be dry again, but wind speeds should decrease.
Residents affected by Friday's order had until 4 p.m.to comply so firefighters can check the advance of the northeast flank of the fire.
Weather conditions will continue to be challenging.
For up-to-date information on evacuation status, you are asked to call the La Plata County Emergency Operations Center at (970) 385-8700.
An evacuation center and shelter is open 24 hours a day at Escalante Middle School at 141 Baker Lane in Durango.
Livestock can be evacuated to the La Plata County Fairgrounds at 2500 Main Avenue.
La Plata County's latest order follows the evacuation of more than 1,000 homes earlier along U.S. Highway 550, a key artery connecting the cities of Durango and Silverton, roughly 135 miles (217 kilometers) northwest of the Four Corners Monument that connects Colorado with Utah, Arizona and New Mexico.
U.S. Highway 550 will close indefinitely to both northbound and southbound traffic from Cometti/Mead Lane in Hermosa at mile point 32.2, to Cascade just north of Purgatory at mile point 53.
The 416 Fire started June 1 in the San Juan National Forest but the cause hasn't been determined.
