FIFA World Cup: Goalkeeper David De Gea Demands Public Apology From Spain Prime Minister

David de Gea

De Gea's focus was hampered during Spain's last appearance at a major worldwide tournament when his name became linked with a sexual assault case in the build-up to UEFA Euro 2016.

David De Gea says discussions about his future at Manchester United are not important as he focuses on the upcoming World Cup.

Last week, when Sanchez came to see the Spanish team off ahead of the World Cup in Russia, De Gea was pictured with his hands in his pockets, remaining on the fringes of the group as teammates applauded the premier's arrival.

De Gea said: "I politely accepted his apology". It's very important to have a good World Cup and I hope we can go far and win - that would be wonderful.

Meanwhile, De Gea has claimed he is too focused on the World Cup to think about his future. "It is easy to talk about others in this country".

"I always put my music on", he told Copa90. I always said that it was a lie and yet people continued saying that I should not go to the national team.

De Gea had previously denied any involvement in the sex assault case with no evidence found against him.

"I think that for a time I wasn't treated as I should have been", he said. "I still don't know what was behind it all and everything that came out a few days before the start of Euro 2016".

"Many people criticised me, knowing that what they said wasn't correct, but then they have not had the courage to rectify it. I just want to be 100 percent focused on the World Cup".

"There are things that did a lot of damage and had an affect". In the end, things are shown, it turned out that everything was a lie.

De Gea has been a key member of a United side going through a transition period, with his top class reflexes often earning the Red Devils valuable points.

"We also have a great national team, and it will be a tough game".
