Donald Trump warns Justin Trudeau over comments made at G7 Summit

The Trump administration recently slapped tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union, prompting dollar-for-dollar retaliatory action from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government.

But on Tuesday, Mr. Navarro appeared apologetic during a Wall Street Journal conference, according to several news reports.

Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland said Sunday that "Canada does not believe that ad hominem attacks are a particularly appropriate or useful way to conduct our relations with other countries".

"And that's what bad faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference", he said.

At a press conference Saturday, Trudeau recommitted to imposing retaliatory tariffs on United States goods in response to Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs.

He delivered them the day after Trump himself criticized Trudeau and shortly after Trump's top economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, insulted Trudeau himself.

"Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", Trudeau said Saturday as the gathering concluded after Trump had left early for the Singapore summit with Kim Jong Un.

Instead of telling Trump directly, Trudeau waited until the President was departing the summit, then told reporters in a news conference that he meant to press ahead with retaliatory tariffs against U.S. products, declaring that Canada "will not be pushed around".

"We support the continuing efforts by the president on North Korea, (and) we look forward to looking at the details of the agreement", Trudeau said.

Responding, Wallace said: "You used some very strong words, "stab in the back", "a special place in hell".

Deron Bilous, Economic Development and Trade Minister in Alberta's NDP government, said Canada shouldn't back down.

"We have been encouraging the federal government to engage with China on free-trade talks because there is such significant potential in that market", said Bilous. He learned. You can't do. We have a big trade deficit with Canada. The Trudeau government has announced it will impose dollar-for-dollar, retaliatory tariffs on metals and a range of other USA products by July 1. "And in fact the picture with Angela Merkel, who I get along with very well, where I'm sitting there like this. we're waiting for the document because I wanted to see the final document as changed".

The United States has alienated Canada and other allies by imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, arguing that they pose a threat to USA national security.
