Man 'armed with bomb' takes pregnant woman hostage in Paris

12 June 2018, 09:56 | Erica Roy

An armed man has taken hostages at a building in a northern district of Paris.

According to media reports, three people were taken hostage, including a pregnant woman.

Police said the incident was not believed to be terror-related.

The hostages are being held in the internal courtyard of the building, which contains a mix of offices and residential apartments. The information could not be officially confirmed.

Photos and videos from the scene showed numerous police vehicles and ambulances at Rue des Petites Ecuries in the 10th arrondissement of the French capital.

The man reportedly asked for the Iranian embassy to be contacted but the police did not confirm the report.

The hostage-taker also claimed he had an accomplice outside the building with a bomb, according to Lefebvre.

At least one man was lightly injured while fighting with the hostage-taker and escaping before the BRI officers arrived on the scene, a police source said. "His demands were really vague and incoherent", said an interior ministry official.
