White House Economic Adviser: Canada's Trudeau 'Stabbed Us In The Back'

White House Economic Adviser: Canada's Trudeau 'Stabbed Us In The Back'

On Saturday, Trump arrived late for the first working session on gender equality but Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau forged ahead with opening remarks without him, commenting wryly about "stragglers".

"But President Trump has every right to push back publicly on this Trudeau amateur scheme".

"There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door", Navarro replied. "We make commitments and keep them", the presidency said, adding that "France and Europe maintain their support for this (G7) statement".

Trump called Trudeau "dishonest and weak" in a tweet on Saturday.

"All Justin Trudeau had to do was take the win", Navarro said.

Trump headed into the Group of Seven talks in Canada having picked fights with some of his biggest allies, who vowed to confront him about new USA tariffs on steel and aluminium. Trudeau said Trump's citing of "national security" as a reason for the levies being imposed was "kind of insulting" to Canadian veterans who had stood by their U.S. allies in conflicts dating back to World War I.

Kudlow later tied Trudeau's comments to the president's upcoming Singapore summit with North Korean despot Kim Jong-Un and explained that if anything went wrong during the negotiations, it would likely be Trudeau's fault. In it, Merkel stares coldly, both hands braced on a table, at a defiant USA president Donald Trump, who is seated with his arms crossed. "So, I ask you: He gets up in the airplane and leaves, and then Trudeau starts blasting him at a domestic news conference?" "They have enormous tariffs, tariffs on certain dairy products".

Kudlow also insisted that Trudeau's remarks were created to make America look weak as Trump flies to Singapore for his meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

Trudeau said Canada planned to retaliate after the Trump administration announced tariffs last month that will be coming as of July 1.

The trade spat dominated the meeting, with Canadian and European leaders threatening retaliatory duties in response to the U.S. levies.

US President Donald Trump has told Group of Seven leaders that the United States wants a quick end to trade practices that he says have led to an exodus of American companies and jobs to other countries.

Shortly afterward, the White House issued a separate photo showing a sitting Trump speaking as Merkel, Abe and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau listen.

"He is not going to permit any show of weakness on the trip to negotiate with North Korea, nor should he", Kudlow said of Trump.

Russian Federation was suspended from the group in 2014 because of its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.

A German government spokesman said that his country "stands behind the communique which was collectively agreed upon".

Trump and European allies are also at odds over Trump's decision to pull the United States out of the deal in which Iran curbed its disputed nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief, and the Paris climate change accord.

European officials said Trump had tried to water down the language in the draft communique on the WTO and rules-based trade.
