UFC 225: Australia's Robert Whittaker primed for Yoel Romero fight

Yoel Romero Daniel Cormier

Cuban Romero, who failed to make the limit for his last fight in Perth in February, initially came in just under half a kilogram heavy and had two hours to lose the excess weight. Punk last fought back in September 2016, losing via submission to Mickey Gall at 2:14 in the first round at UFC 203.

The UFC did not announce whether the fight would continue, but the two fighters were introduced and faced off at the ceremonial weigh-ins later on Friday.

Earlier in the week, Whittaker was asked whether he would take the fight if Romero missed weight again. Romero knocked out Rockhold in the second round. Romero won that bout via a knockout, and although he wasn't awarded a belt, he immediately was given a title shot despite his weight cutting issues.

Whittaker said: "I have a great team and a great staff".

This is the second consecutive fight in which Romero has missed weight. Or really punish him for missing weight by pushing him down the line of contenders.

The fight will still take place, and Whittaker will retain his title if he wins.

According to Okamoto, the UFC is now working with Romero and Whittaker's camps to try to keep the main event together.

"I don't think he can change that drastically at his age and in this little amount of time before the fight", he said.

Australian Megan Anderson and her featherweight opponent - former bantamweight world champion Holly Holm - each logged the same weight.
