Nadal claims record-extending 11th French Open title

ITV Sport retain TV rights to French Open at Roland Garros

Can you see Thiem denying Nadal a record-extending 11th title at Roland Garros?

"It's incredible now, I can't describe my feelings", Nadal told the crowd on Philippe Chatrier Court moments after capturing his 17th Grand Slam trophy with a 6-4 6-3 6-2 victory.

Since the start of the Open era in 1968, the players from the United States of America were the dominant figures in men's tennis at Grand Slam tournaments, winning 51 titles and leaving Sweden, Spain and Switzerland far behind.

The victory also allowed the 32-year-old Spaniard to hold onto the No. 1 ranking.

Nadal was unrelenting against the Thiem serve, earning 17 break points and winning five as the Austrian sprayed 42 unforced errors during the match.

It was his most one-sided final win since allowing Federer just four games in the 2008 final. Thiem may need to play near flawless tennis if he expects to give Nadal a serious challenge.

From 4-all, 15-all in the opening set, Thiem faltered.

Rafael Nadal tears up after lifting his 11th French Open title.

In 112 best-of-five-set matches, Nadal has never lost after claiming the first set.

However, it was not all smooth sailing for Nadal on Sunday, as he started suffering cramps on his left hand in the third set.

News of the extension comes ahead of the conclusion of this year's French Open, with the men's and women's finals due to take place this weekend. After Nadal held there for 5-4, Thiem basically handed over the next game - and the set - by making four mistakes in a row.

It was a match told in break points.

The Spaniard was quick to hammer home his advantage at the start of the second, converting his fifth break point of a lengthy game as Thiem's usually trusty backhand let him down.

The 10-time champion is playing Dominic Thiem.

In their previous nine meetings, all on clay, the man who took the opening set went on to win the match.

In fact, Thiem is so good on clay that he has downed Nadal three times on the surface, including earlier this year at the Madrid Open.

Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters and James Bond actress Lea Seydoux have unveiled the Musketeers Cup that will be won by either Rafael Nadal or Dominic Thiem in the French Open final.

According to Daily Express, the Met Office say that there is a 70 percent chance of rain by 4 pm (7:30 pm in India) and the showers may remain till 9 pm (00:30 am in IST).
