Every year, the United Kingdom honors Queen Elizabeth's birthday with the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony which is one of the most spectacular royal events of the year.

Saturday's event to mark the Queen's birthday saw the little Prince and Princess behaving impeccably in front of the cameras, as usual - three-year-old Charlotte couldn't clapping along with the crowds while George happily watched the flypast.

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, did not take part today, in line with his retirement from public life past year.

Meghan Markle is still breaking protocol despite her newly minted royal status.

Roughly 1,000 soldiers marched to House Guards Parade in Whitehall, central London, as part of the Trooping of the Colour ceremony.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are also royal colonels, but the parade is for the queen, and Prince Philip is getting up there in years and just had a hip replacement.

After the ceremony the royal family will head back to Buckingham Palace and gather on the balcony to watch the RAF flypast.

Meghan will undertake her first official engagement with the Queen next week when she joins Her Majesty on the royal train for a visit to Cheshire, in north-west England.

Doria, who was Meghan's only family member at the wedding, arrived at the chapel alone after earlier sharing Meghan's auto. It originates from traditional battle preparations, where flags were "trooped" - ie carried - slowly through the ranks so they could be seen by all soldiers, so they could recognise them during combat.

Prince Phillip, who was recently at Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding at St. George's Chapel, is instead spending the weekend privately.

The queen is then joined by other members of the royal family on the balcony at Buckingham Palace before a 41-gun salute is fired to mark the occasion.

The ceremony culminates with a magnificent balcony appearance by the Royal Family.

Meghan also had her hair styled in a bouncy blowout.

"I'm quite proud and I know that a lot of other people are proud of me as well", he said.
