Dead or Alive 6 is on the way, and Team Ninja wants to “make the characters less sexualized”

Dead or Alive 6 announced for PC, due 2019

Team Ninja is toning down the sexuality to focus more on other areas of the game.

The last main entry in the Dead or Alive franchise was Dead or Alive 5, released all the way back in 2013 with DLCs for the game being released up until 2015. The game will be released on the PlayStation 4, the XBOX One and the PC.

"We wanted to make a more cool and mature Dead or Alive this time", says director Yohei Shimbori, "and to that end we made a conscious decision to make the characters less sexualized". They can still be countered and countering either move can lead to a significant advantage.

File this one under "things we never saw coming", Team Ninja have announced that Dead or Alive 6 is happening, and will be arriving next year.

While the visuals seem to be changing, Dead or Alive 6's core gameplay stays familiar to what the series always has excelled at: over-the-top martial-arts action with interactive stages.

Overall, this looks pretty interesting and you'll tell from the trailer below that the game looks very sharp.

Sporting a brand-new engine and full support for modern consoles, it's time to get excited again for Ryu Hayabusa, Zack, and ground-breaking jiggle-physics pioneer Kasumi. More fighters will join the final roster, including both fighters from previous entries and completely new characters.

Otherwise, as IGN's hands-on preview shows, Dead or Alive 6 still feels like a Dead or Alive game at its heart.
