Film producer Harvey Weinstein leaves a Manhattan court on Tuesday

Weinstein quietly answered a series of yes and no questions from the judge asking if he understood his rights at the hearing in Manhattan after a grand jury indicted the former movie mogul last week on charges involving two women.

The woman accusing Weinstein of rape has not been identified, but in October the New Yorker reported that 13 women accused Weinstein of sexually harassing or assaulting them since the 1990s, including a women named Lucia Evans, who said Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him in 2004 - allegations that mirror those in Weinstein's indictment.

Weinstein, who appeared in court in a dark blazer, jeans and a tie, uttered only a few words at the brief arraignment hearing in Manhattan. The rape charges are related to an unnamed woman.

Weinstein was flanked by cameras as he entered a lower Manhattan courthouse Tuesday morning alongside attorney Benjamin Brafman.

The charges in NY are the first to surface in the months since more than 80 women came forward to accuse Weinstein of a range of misconduct, from harassment to rape. "He intends to fight them".

Brafman says the rape complaint came from a woman who had a 10-year affair with Weinstein, but the information was not confirmed.

Since October, almost 100 women have said they were harassed or sexually abused by Weinstein over a period of more than two decades. Boyce told ABC News.

Harvey Weinstein is scheduled to be arraigned in NY on rape and criminal sex act charges.

The disgraced producer has been accused of sexual misconduct by over 70 women across numerous incidents spanning back decades.

The #MeToo movement has seen people around the world come forward with cases of sexual mistreatment, leading to the downfall of powerful men across industries, including Oscar victor Kevin Spacey. He went to Arizona for sex addiction therapy. His wife Georgina Chapman left him, and leading figures in politics whom he had supported denounced him.

Weinstein is out on $1 million bail.

As the case in NY proceeds, authorities in Southern California and London are continuing to investigate allegations against Weinstein.

Weinstein already faces a slew of civil lawsuits, is reportedly under federal investigation and his former studio has filed for bankruptcy.

"Mr. Weinstein did not invent the casting couch in Hollywood", Brafman said.

London's Metropolitan Police and Los Angeles prosecutors have said they are reviewing accusations of sexual assault against him.
