Warriors Complete Sweep Of Cavs For Third NBA Title In Four Years

Smith mistake

Kevin Durant captured back-to-back Finals MVP awards after the Golden State Warriors completed a clean sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are just one game away from elimination from the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors were able to take the Cavaliers' best punch in the first half, keeping the game well into striking distance, dealing their usual counterpunch in the third quarter, gaining an eight-point differential, which they would ride onto the end of regulation. The feat has not been accomplished since the 2007 San Antonio Spurs swept a young LeBron James and his Cavaliers teammates behind a dominant series from Tim Duncan. And with less than a minute left, the fate of the game-and the series-hung in the balance of a few late possessions. As a team, the Cavaliers shot just 43 percent from the field and nine of 31 from the three-point line which was good enough to keep them in the game due to their defense, but they just had no answer for Kevin Durant who scorched them for a game-high 43 points on 15 of 23 shooting. With his seventh point Friday night, Durant broke Curry's Warriors record for points in a single postseason (594 in 2015).

Cleveland managed to force a Game 5 in last year's Finals but they were led by Kyrie Irving then, who ended with 40 points that night. Kevin Love, J.R. Smith and Rodney Hood added a combined 33 points, but shot just 11-35 from the field.

"Just after the game, just talking to the guys, it was a tough season", Lue said.

Expected to win it all, and at times buckling under the burden, the Warriors succeeded about as spectacularly as possible.

The Warriors won 108-85 Friday night with a signature third-quarter run that buried the Cavs. After that heartbreaking loss, James' play has fluctuated and so did Cleveland's game.

They did it in Game 4 behind Stephen Curry's 37 points and Kevin Durant's triple-double, which followed his stunningly efficient performances in Games 2 and 3. Klay put up a clutch 10, while Iguodala hit three 3-pointers, totaling 11 himself. Golden State scored three quick baskets to start the third quarter. In the history of the National Basketball Association, no team has survived after being down 0-3. In Game 3, he re-aggravated an ankle injury he sustained during the Eastern Conference Finals. The way we played, the calls that were made throughout the course of that game.
