The University of the Philippines remains to be the highest-ranked university in the country, landing on the 384th spot along with the University of California-Riverside in the United States and Universidad de Belgrano in Argentina.

Of Russia's 27 ranked universities, 19 improve their position.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) has been placed 11th globally in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2019, moving up four places from past year.

UM said analysis into the ranking results showed that the gains through three indicators, namely academic reputation, employer reputation, and citations per faculty leapfrogged the university into the top 100. Experts say that the university needs to improve this ratio.

MIT was also ranked the world's top university in 12 of 48 disciplines ranked by QS, as announced in February of this year.

UAEU said in a statement that it is now ranked 350th globally and is among the top 35 percent percent higher education institutions in the world.

Since 2004, Quacquarelli Symonds and Times Higher Education have worked together in publishing annual university rankings.

UNBC was the only post-secondary school in the province to be named to the list and one of only four Canadian universities to make the cut.

It found people living in regional areas remained half as likely to have a university qualification as people living in major cities, suggesting the uncapped system of university student places is vital to close the gap. It gives 10 percent weight to employer reputation and 5 percent each to global faculty and worldwide student ratios.

Australia loses its only top-20 institution, with the Australian National University falling from 20th to 24th. "We will also continue to push boundaries to pioneer new models of education and generate research discoveries that could have a deep impact on society". Tsinghua University becomes the first Chinese top-20 university since QS's first standalone compilation.
