Rockets To Be Aggressive Pursuing Paul George

Report: Rockets will aggressively pursue Paul George this summer

Chris Paul Won't Take Pay Cut To Stay With Houston Rockets: Report

However, the type of contract the veteran point guard plans to sign could put the Rockets in a huge dilemma as, according to Adrian Wojnarowski ofESPN, Paul has no intention to take a pay cut in the upcoming free agency.

Restricted free agent center Clint Capela is expected to receive a massive raise this summer, while Trevor Ariza and Gerald Green are among key unrestricted free agents.

Now, they are reportedly looking into adding even more fire power for the 2018-2019 season.

James and Paul are close friends as part of the "Banana Boat" crew that also includes Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony. Wojnarowski said that the Oklahoma City Thunder have a "real opportunity" to keep George but noted that the Rockets would "be aggressive" in trying to find a way to sign him, per Brett Dawson of the Oklahoman. "I don't imagine it playing out that way".

Paul averaged 18.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 7.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game this season, his first, in Houston. However, paying Paul $46-47 million per year will bury the Rockets deep in the luxury tax hell. Paul injured his hamstring late in that series against the Golden State Warriors, though, and missed the final two games - both of which Houston lost.

Pete Zayas of Lakers Film Room told the Under the Buss Podcast that LeBron James has already chose to join the Lakers - and that Paul George will signing with them as well.

"If Paul stays with the Rockets, Houston becomes the closest thing to a favourite on my scorecard, no matter how complicated it would be for the 65-win Rockets and their general manager, Daryl Morey, to orchestrate the requisite salary-cap gymnastics to bring James in". So if Paul is re-signed, they won't have much flexibility in free agency.
