OFFICIAL: HBO Reveals Details Behind 'Game Of Thrones' Prequel Spinoff

‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel From Jane Goldman & George R.R. Martin Gets HBO Pilot Order

According to a description released by the network, the untitled series is set thousands of years before the Westeros we're familiar with and "chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour".

Goldman and A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin wrote the story for the pilot, and Goldman wrote the teleplay.

There's no word yet when casting or production will begin on the new series but with the pilot order done, it probably won't be long.

Regardless of the next steps, we'll have to be patient. Though fans are sure to be hungry for details.it's heartening to note that at least a part of the Game of Thrones world will be entrusted to a female creator, a unique development in the series' history.

Either way, this new show from Martin and Goldman sounds pretty tantalizing.

Basically, all we know is that it will take place thousands of years before the books and the main TV series, so don't expect to see any characters (or actors) that you're familiar with from the original show.

Game of Thrones fans, get ready, because E! Goldman will write the script based on the pair's storyline.

"Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss aren't part of any of the spinoff projects.

As Thrones prepares to wrap up its run with an eighth and final season in 2019, it was never a question of whether HBO would choose to continue the run of its most successful property ever, but which story would be picked up. The other four writers are Max Borenstein, Brian Helgeland, Cary Wray, and Bryan Cogman. Likewise, Gwendolyn Christie's Brienne of Tarth has justifiably become one of the most popular figures in the Game of Thrones tapestry, a questing ronin-knight serving various dead masters, pursuing Stark children and Baratheon justice through war and ruin. "There's no revival, reboot, spinoff talk", HBO programming president Casey Bloys told the Hollywood Reporter earlier this year.
