As bioplastics get popular in India a more genuine green choice is to boot out plastic altogether

Mr Louis Kuupen, UNDP Assistant Country Director, who represented the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, said the United Nations in Ghana was committed to supporting government efforts to protect the environment, including beating plastics pollution.

Gujarat's minister of state for environment reportedly opposes the ban on plastic as most industries that depend on it operate from his assembly constituency of Halol.

The Pope marked World Environment Day, Tuesday, tweeting a prayer: "Lord, reawaken in us a sense of praise and gratitude for our Earth, and for everything you have created".

The report notes that by some estimates, as many as 5 trillion plastic bags are used worldwide every year.

"India and China, frankly speaking, are in the lead of solving their environment issues, obviously there had been challenges", he said.

"When it comes to plastic pollution, Brits are mad as hell and they're not going to take it anymore". More specifically, Mr. Guterres stated: "Our world is swamped by harmful plastic waste".

Did you know that globally, we dump around eight million tonnes of plastics into the sea every year?

"There's an enormous opportunity to turn single-use plastic bottles into a valuable resource if placed in the correct recycling bins".

We must also expedite the mission of finding more natural alternatives to plastics that are environmental-friendly, sustainable, cost-effective and convenient.

Campaigners against plastic pollution are urging millions of people around the world to avoid plastic packaged food and drink products for 24 hours as part of a "world first" One Plastic Free Day on World Environment Day.

In the meantime, apart from the plastic pollution, Sudan is facing other environment issues, top of them desertification or desert encroachment. Particularly, the Head of UN Environment mentioned: "The assessment shows that action can be painless and profitable - with huge gains for people and the planet that help avert the costly downstream costs of pollution". Our ongoing drives to conserve and revive water bodies are addressing the pressing problem of clogging by plastic wastes. "It's what we do with it".

While the government has claimed several times that it wants to shut down all small and illegal plastic producing plants, the amendment to the rules seems to dilute this as well.

REMA now encourages Rwandans to live without disposable plastics to make the world a better place for today and future generations. The choices may not be easy. Thus one can say that the plastic pollution calls for the dire attention of the global population and that too with a good cause.

For more than a decade, Rwanda has raised awareness about the benefits of life without plastic bags to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

The celebration of World Environment Day started in 1974 with the goal of raising awareness, supporting action and driving change.
