Miss Tennessee 2017 Caty Davis participates in the swimsuit challenge during Miss America 2018
Women competing in the annual Miss America pageant will no longer be judged on how well they can parade around the stage in their swimsuits.
On Tuesday morning's installment of GMA, Gretchen Carlson (who presently chairs the board for the Miss America Organization) told Amy Robach that "We are no longer a pageant". Part of the tradition of why we were here in Atlantic City was that it started as a bathing beauty competition.
Leanza Cornett, Miss America in 1993, supported the change, saying she "hated" the swimsuit competition.
The organization will also scrap the evening gown portion for a segment in which women will wear anything that makes them feel confident, to showcase their personal styles.

Carlson said that the competition-no longer a "pageant"-will, as a whole, no longer judge contestants based on their outward appearance".
Miss America, America's favorite shitshow of a competition, has decided to make a radical change.
Carlson said the Miss America Organization will emphasize its role as a scholarship provider. "We want more young women to see this program as a platform upon which they can advance their desire to make a real difference and to provide them with the necessary skills and resources for them to succeed in any career path they choose".
The former Fox News host, 51, said the evening gown portion will also be revamped. "We are now open, inclusive and transparent", she says, "and I want to inspire thousands of young people across this country to come and be a part of our program".
Carlson has been a champion of the #MeToo movement combating sexual abuse and harassment by powerful men in business, entertainment and media.
Late past year, a number of emails were leaked that showed conversations between the pageant's CEO Sam Haskell and others within the organization, insulting former winners' bodies, slut-shaming them, referring to them with misogynistic slurs, and even conspiring to tank their businesses and deny them their livelihood.
Carlson settled a lawsuit claiming she was harassed while with her former employer by Fox chairman Roger Ailes for $20 million.
