Harvey Weinstein surrendered to authorities in Manhattan Friday morning to face charges of rape and sexual abuse stemming from an investigation launched by the Manhattan District Attorney and New York Police Department.

Lucia Evans, who said Weinstein forced her into oral sex in 2004, is thought to be one of the women whose cases triggered charges.

NY police have also confirmed a credible rape allegation against Weinstein after "Boardwalk Empire" actress Paz de la Huerta accused him of raping her twice at her NY apartment in late 2010. The former Hollywood mogul agreed to post a $1 million cash bail, wear an electronic ankle monitor, and not travel beyond NY state and CT. In another case, involving a woman who has not been named, Weinstein faces charges that include first-degree rape. We stand with the courageous women who came forward against Harvey Weinstein.

"I said, over and over, 'I don't want to do this, stop, don't, ' " she told the New Yorker, adding, "He's a big guy". 'May this give hope to all victims and survivors everywhere'.

Weinstein stands accused by more than 70 women of sexual misconduct, including rape, with some of the accusations going back decades.

"The NYPD thanks these fearless survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice". Another aspiring actress, Mimi Haleyi, said Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her in his NY apartment in 2006.

"I have to admit I didn't think I would see the day that he would have handcuffs on him", McGowan told ABC television. "I tried to get away, but maybe I didn't try hard enough". The New York Times reported that the charges follow multiple accusations against him that led women around the world to come forward with accounts of being sexually harassed and assaulted by powerful men, leading to the #MeToo movement. "I didn't want to kick him or fight him".

After talking and writing about the case for so long, including in a recent memoir, "Brave," McGowan, 44, said it came as a huge surprise when news of the legal case finally came.

Actor Ashley Judd last month sued Weinstein, saying that he cost her a part in the Lord of the Rings movies after she rejected his sexual advances, charges that Weinstein has denied.

Otherwise, he has been hit by a litany of civil lawsuits and The Weinstein Company - which sacked him - has filed for bankruptcy.

"It was like it was just another day for him", Evans said.

Harvey Weinstein has been charged with at least four sex-related offenses after turning himself in to the NY police on Friday. They stem from encounters with two of the dozens of women who have accused him of sexual misdeeds ranging from harassment to assault.

"Weinstein had until recently seemed untouchable, harnessing his wealth and his influence in the movie industry to intimidate women out of speaking publicly and, only three years ago, withstand an investigation into groping allegations", the NYT report said.

The police passed the case to prosecutors. He was the cult leader of Hollywood, I would say.
