Elon Musk To Make Public Appearance, Answer Questions On LA Tunnel Plan

Lawsuits threaten to derail Musk's Los Angeles tunnel
A report from the Culver City manager's office stated: 'The Boring Company has proposed a privately funded human transportation tunnel that would run underneath the Westside of Los Angeles.
Musk said the first two tunnel segments would serve as proof-of-concept sites to demonstrate ideas for a traffic-easing network of subterranean tubes whisking passenger-carrying "pods" and individual cars from place to place at high speeds.
The news was announced during a community meeting for The Boring Company last night which, funnily enough, Musk was late to due to the city's traffic, which he called "the seventh or eighth level" of hell.
Elon Musk shared some details of his new project of the Boring company about his project to cure the city's traffic congestion with hundreds of tunnels.
"If you build a tunnel in L.A., you can build one anywhere", Musk said, referring to the various challenges the test tunnel would need to overcome in the city, including seismic conditions, methane gas, oil fields, and regulations.
It is unknown how fast the "electric skates" will go during tests on the public.
Elon Musk and project leader Steve Davis alluded that the team at The Boring Company is challenged to match the digging space of a snail (0.03 MPH) and get up to 1/10 of the average human walking speed of about 0.03 miles per hour, compared to the current pace of around 0.0003 miles per hour. These shuttles will be able to carry cars, but Musk has said that pedestrians and cyclists will take priority. Am going to build a tunnel boring machine and just start digging...'.
Fares for Loop could cost as little as $1 per person, Musk suggested, though the actual cost will likely depend on a number of factors, and require input from multiple local and regional agencies.
The Boring Company has already built a shorter tunnel in nearby Hawthorne, where SpaceX's headquarters is located.
The nearly completed dry run is created to make sure plans actually work - if it doesn't, the city can request the tunnel is filled in with concrete or soil. "You won't hear us".
Musk said that Boring Company Loop's vision of the future would be much more congruous with city life than subways, and that while it was very hard to weave large stations into a city, building many more parking spot-sized stations could theoretically be much more effective.
