Indore is India's cleanest cities
Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad found a special mention as the fastest moving big city of Swachh Survekshan 2018, rising from rank 351 in 2017 to its current rank of 36. State ranking was introduced in this year's survey, which was conducted between January 4 and March 10.
For the second year in a row, Indore and Bhopal have retained their position as the top two cleanest cities in India, followed by Chandigarh.
"The Swachh Sarvekshan 2018 assessed 4,203 urban local bodies, impacting around 40 crore citizens across the length and breadth of the country, through 2,700 assessors".
Last year BMC was at the 29th position.
Indore was the cleanest city a year ago as well but that survey was conducted only for around 430 cities.
Mangalore from Karnataka, Tirupati from Andhra Pradesh and Navi Mumbai from Maharashtra were also declared best cities in solid waste management.
In the category of cities with less than 0.1 million population, the cleanest city was Bhadson (Punjab) in the north zone, Bundu (Jharkhand) in the east zone, Kakching (Manipur) in the northeast zone, Siddipet (Telangana) in the south zone, and Panchgani (Maharashtra) in the west zone. While deciding the awards, it has been kept in mind that one city gets only one award i.e the category in which it has performed the best.
Delhi Cantonment has been adjudged the best Cantonment Board in the country, followed by Almora and Ranikhet Board in Uttrakhand.
If you are wondering which are the "worst-performing cities", in terms of cleanliness, then you have to wait for a while.
