Whitney Houston's eternal impact on culture continues to shine in the new, full-length trailer for the upcoming documentary about her life.

Check out the trailer as it teases revelations about Houston's longtime friend and assistant Robyn Crawford and the nature of their relationship.

The project is described as an "unflinching portrait" of the "I Will Always Love You" hitmaker and her family, and will shed "new light" on her personal life.

The trailer shows the seven-time Grammy victor opening up about the ugly side of celebrity ("People think it's easy, but it's not") and trash-talking fellow singer Paula Abdul ("That girl is singing off-key on the record"). "She used to say, 'I wonder if I did something to make her think I wanted her, '" recalls Jones. Another adds: "His heart was, he wanted to be on the stage". "That girl is singing off key on the record". "And eventually, she stepped down to lift him up". The teaser also includes rare footage of Houston performing-sometimes joyful, other times joyless-exhausted from the stress of fame and suffering from a drug addiction that plagued her until her untimely death at age 48 in 2012.

But Miss Houston never told her mother Cissy Houston about the alleged abuse because she "was ashamed", according to her aunt.

And, of course, Houston's own voice - specifically, her memorable 1991 performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XXV - is showcased in the trailer. And I thought that was a very odd thing, and it kind of reminded me of people I'd seen who had suffered from abuse, just in their body language and their sense of holding something back. and then somebody mentioned it off-camera to me. And I thought that was interesting. "And then Nicole sent me this article about Whitney's rendition of 'The Star-Spangled Banner" and how that changed how the song has been understood and sung ever since", he said. You can check it out the Miramax and Roadside Attractions in theaters (in North America) starting July 6.
