Ford Motor Co. will resume building its biggest moneymaker, the F-150 pickup, two weeks after a fire at a supplier's factory halted production of trucks at three plants.
Ford announced Wednesday that production of the F-150 would resume Friday at its Dearborn, Mich. plant now that the Easton Rapids facility is back in operation. By Monday, the company expects to restart production on Super Duty trucks at a plant in Louisville, Ky., and F-150s at its Kansas City, Mo., assembly plant.
Ford teams, together with suppliers including Walbridge and other contractors, worked almost around the clock to get America's best-selling vehicle franchise back on line as quickly as possible, according to a release. "The ramp-up time to full production is improving every day".
The automaker also flew one die weighing 87,000 pounds (39.5 tonnes) to a Meridian plant in Nottingham, England, after commissioning a giant Russian-built Antonov cargo plane - one of only 21 in the world.
