UFC: Liddell comes out of retirment, challenges Jones

Chuck Liddell Officially Out Of Retirement, Vowing To Fight Tito Ortiz This November

Chuck Liddell

On Monday morning, former UFC light heavyweight champion and one of the pioneers of the MMA leader, Chuck Liddell, told Ariel Helwani on "The MMA Hour" that his end goal in part of his comeback is to get a crack at Jon Jones.

It's official, UFC hall-of-famer Chuck Liddell is out of retirement at the ripe old age of 48.

Jones, meanwhile, welcomed Liddell's challenge and said he'd take the match as soon as possible. Since being released from his UFC ambassador position after WME-IMG bought the UFC from the Fertitta brothers, Liddell has not had a consistent paycheck.

While the ridiculous match-up would nearly never happen with Jones facing a potentially lengthy suspension from USADA and Liddell out of the UFC and likely never to return, it appears that the longtime UFC fan favorite will still be able to compete in his home state on one serious condition.

Liddell would be only too happy to get another chance to lay hands on his old rival, who he has previously finished twice with strikes in the UFC, but he's also made a point of stating that even if Ortiz pulled out, he still wants to fight again. It's a big fight that would make Liddell and whoever his opponent is a lot of money. He hasn't won a fight since 2007, when he beat Wanderlei Silva in an underrated classic. "It'll be somebody else, one of the guys from my past probably, most likely, and we'll see where I'm at". We just have to accept the fact "The Iceman" is coming back to MMA. "Leave me alone", Liddell said.

"In my mind, I would like two good warm up fights, and I'd like a shot at Jon Jones", Liddell said. Ortiz would honestly be the ideal opponent, but if that can't happen, then maybe a rematch with Vitor Belfort works.

Well it didn't take long for Jones to catch wind of the call out as he responded while offering to give Liddell his shot as early as this weekend if that's what he really wants. Not that it would have happened anyways, but just anyone who is younger than 40 should be kept away from Liddell.

"I think style wise - in my prim - I would have matched up with him ideal". A fighter who is still considering talks with Bellator, who is not afraid of employing aging fighters.
