Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle asked for "understanding" for the father of the American actress after the USA celebrity news site TMZ reported on Monday he would not attend the couple's glittering wedding in Britain this weekend.

The sad result, besides photos he admits look "stupid and hammy", is he will no longer be attending his own daughter's wedding out of fear of embarrassing her!

Earlier Monday TMZ reported Thomas Markle would not attend the wedding after it was revealed he allowed a photo agency to take staged pictures of him preparing for the wedding.

It is unclear whether Meghan Markle's father Thomas will walk her down the aisle on Saturday as planned.

The widely circulated photographs showed him being measured for a wedding suit and looking at newspaper stories about his daughter.

Here are some of the possibilities.

This is a service offered to many couples within the religion ahead of the big date to help understand and plan for married life together.

Meghan's mother Doria may now have to give her away, the paper adds.

"I am thrilled to have The Windsors back on Channel 4 for a royal wedding special and can't wait to see what Meghan's dress looks like, if Fergie is invited and most importantly what fascinators Beatrice and Eugenie will be wearing!"

Thomas Sr. will be walking his daughter down the aisle on Saturday.

He had also been expected to meet the queen, her husband and the other senior members of the Windsor family this week.

While her family have seemingly done their best to drag her reputation through the mud over the past few months, the Palace has been vocal in its support of her and has, in Meghan's own words, been welcoming and understanding. When the late Princess Margaret Wednesday Anthony Armstrong-Jones in 1960, Prince Philip - the husband of her sister, Queen Elizabeth II - accompanied her down the aisle, according to Town & Country.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that her father would walk her down the aisle, but it's now believed her mother Doria Ragland will do the honours if she can not convince her father to attend.

Or at least the one where he was at an Internet shop researching about Prince Harry?

The Daily Mail reports that Thomas Markle was caught on CCTV collaborating with Los Angeles-based paparazzi photographer Jeff Rayner on a series of photos that were sold to publications around the world for up to £100,000 (~$136,000).

A global audience will be watching when Prince Harry weds his USA fiancee Meghan Markle on Saturday, but most Britons don't care much, a YouGov poll said on Monday.
