City finished 19 points clear of closest rivals Manchester United to beat the record set by Alex Ferguson's side when they won the 1999-2000 season by 18 points from Arsenal.

The Egyptian forward bagged his 32nd league goal of the season - from just 36 matches - in the Reds' 4-0 victory at Anfield, wrapping up the Golden Boot award in the process.

"We all can imagine how it would be if everybody tells you every day how brilliant you are and they not only say you are brilliant, they give you an Oscar - an award for this, award for that, award for getting out of the vehicle without an accident".

Speaking to SSN reporter Ben Ransom, Kompany said: "We had a good season last season but these things take time".

"The top six now is so strong, everyone's really competitive, so for us to finish in the top three for a third year in a row is brilliant", added Kane.

Around 100,000 fans are estimated to have lined the route, which took the players from Victoria Street to Deansgate via Albert Square.

Playmaker David Silva and top scorer Sergio Aguero were not involved. Aguero, who has a knee injury, has been given permission to report for worldwide duty early ahead of the World Cup.

The 32-year-old has been allowed to make regular visits to his homeland during the second half of the campaign after Mateo was born prematurely last December.

Silva, who was given leave whenever he requested it during the season, sent a recorded message.

The Spain worldwide missed City's title parade on Monday and in apologising to fans on social media, explained Pep Guardiola's understanding of his situation means he will be in "debt forever" to the manager. I will be in debt with you forever.

Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne hogged the limelight throughout the campaign with delightful performances one after the other.

"For sure we will do that you can imagine, we need more players here and there", he said.
