Nothing suits a victory better than a grand party, and that's what the city of Tel Aviv did: Eurovision 2018 victor Netta Barzilai was treated to a dazzling celebration!
The winning song's main chorus is "I'm not your toy, You stupid boy, I'll take you down".
She also voiced her concerns that a Pride march like one in the Tel Aviv wouldn't be allowed in Russian Federation. "Look at everyone together! We have such a great reason to be happy!"
Only days before in the early hours of Sunday morning following her historic win, massive street parties erupted in the square and across the country. I am proud of you and I am proud of the delegation.
Israeli singer Netta Barzilai won this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon this weekend.
Netta, 25, picked up OUTtv's OUTmusic Award after winning the vote among LGBT fans before the contest, and was invited to accept another honour following her win.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat vowed his city would "grant any help needed in putting up Eurovision 2019 in the capital of Israel".
The prospect of Israel hosting next year's contest in Jerusalem shines a spotlight on the contested city just as Israel marks the annual Jerusalem Day, the anniversary of what it refers to as the city's "unification" following the 1967 war, and a day before the United States is set to officially open its embassy in the city.
Barzilai, a plus-sized 24-year-old, said "Toy" was a celebration of diversity and a protest against the objectification of women and body shaming. Netta Barzilai's "excellent" song could not win Eurovision "because Europe is imbued with bi-coloured anti-Semitism: The classic Christian anti-Semitism of Holocaust's perpetrators and Muslim anti-Semitism that's striking root" there, he wrote, vowing to eat his own "hat" if he's proven wrong.
Israel's three previous Eurovision triumphs occurred in 1978, for "A-Ba-Ni-Bi" performed by Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta; in 1979 (in Jerusalem) for "Hallelujah" performed by Milk and Honey; and in 1998, for Dana International's rendition of "Diva".
Speaking about the chicken noises she makes during the song, she told Wiwibloggs: "The noises are supposed to imitate the voices of a coward - a chicken".
Girl bit by bear gets dozens of internal, external stiches
The attack happened about 2:30 a.m on Sunday, when the child went outside to check on a noise she thought her dog had made. A five-year-old girl was attacked by a bear, bitten and dragged before the girl's mother scared off the animal.
