YouTube TV gains "voice remote" on Android devices
15 May 2018, 05:47 | Jodi Jackson
While the reminder is visible the video you are currently watching will pause until you resume it or dismiss the video
The feature will be added without a specific app update, but it is not now available to all users. These reminders can be a wake -up call when you have spent too much time using the YouTube app. With the latest update, users can stop Google from tracking their viewing history.
Those who received the new voice feature on their Android devices got a pop-up notification in the YouTube TV app regarding the arrival of the feature.
Some Android apps offer an Incognito Mode where you can use their functionality without being tracked and without your actions being logged into your usage history. In YouTube, there's an equivalent of an Incognito Mode by going to Settings History & privacy and toggling on the options to pause watch and search history.
Android will also help users keep track of the amount of time that they spend on their smartphones.
It's worth noting that YouTube's mobile apps already let you pause your watch history and search history by finding those toggles in the settings menu, but we could certainly use a quicker way to indulging our weird side.
The voice remote isn't part of an app update. Now it looks like Google will be extending incognito mode to YouTube on Android. Enabling the feature prevents any activity from being saved on Google's servers until you manually turn off the option. To its credit, YouTube has been getting better at understanding which videos are absolute garbage and shouldn't be recommended on its home page, but I still shudder at the thought of people discovering my abhorrent taste in videos.
