15 May 2018, 02:01 | Jodi Jackson

Google Drive is now 'Google One.' What's the difference?

Google One Features: The successor to Google Drive cloud storage explained

Google One also comes with "one-tap access" to Google experts for help with consumer products and services.

Google already offers 15GB of Drive storage for free, along with a gigabyte here and there if you participated in some earlier promotions. You'll also be able to share the plan with up five family members. Google One will let users do exactly that.

The logo in the top left has been changed to the Google Drive logo. Google One will be marketed as an overall Google subscription, and storage space is just part of the deal.

With their developer conference over with for another year, Google isn't done announcing new things, this morning announcing Google One, a new paid storage service to replace the Google Drive Storage you may or not being paying for. The technology giant divulged plans to provide subscribers with "extras" via its other products, such as Google Play app credits and discounts redeemable at hotels that show up in search results.

Overall, the move from Google Drive to Google One seems to be a solid one on all fronts - offering users more choice and flexibility and adding in a number of new features.

While Google Drive isn't going anywhere, the paid storage plans are.

If you're wondering when you'll be able to try out Google One for yourself, the company claims the upgrade will happen "automatically over the coming months" if you subscribe to any paid Drive storage plan; even the cheapest $1.99/month 100GB plan. With lots of options, ranging from 100GB to 30TB, you can choose the plan that's right for you. Look out for an email confirming your upgrade to Google One, where you can manage your storage plan and benefits.

That $9.99/month was the price of its 1 TB plan, which is being eliminated. Unlike many online publications, we don't have a paywall or run banner advertising, because we want to keep our journalism open, without influence or the need to chase traffic.

Google One will roll out in the US over the next few months.
