Xiaomi Redmi S2 launch in India on June 7 Will it be called Redmi Y2 in India
In India especially, the low-priced mid-range segment is where Xiaomi is strongest and the company is aware that consumers are now looking at phones that not only deliver in looks and performance but also top-notch cameras as well. There are reports that the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 will ship with camera sensors manufactured internally by the production team of the company.
Xiaomi is all set to launch a new budget smartphone in India soon. According to some earlier reports, the company to call the device as Xiaomi Mi 8, as it comes out as the 8th-anniversary edition smartphone of Xiaomi.
The device is powered by Snapdragon 625 which can still be spotted on various Xiaomi devices selling in India, including the Redmi Note 5.
Xiaomi has started teasing the launch of a new smartphone in India on June 7.
Powering it up is an octa-core Cortex A53 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz and paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage with an option to expand its memory by up to 128GB on board.
Although the prices have not been released for India, experts say it is expected to be Rs 10,600 and Rs 13,700 for two variants launched.
On the camera front, the device will pack a 12MP+5MP dual rear cameras on the back. Previously the company had launched the Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite in India, which put an emphasis on the selfie camera.
Instead of bringing an all-new model, Xiaomi is now expected to bring the Redmi S2 to the Indian market as the Redmi Y2.
It was because of JioPhone that the 4G feature phone market continued to grow at more than 50% quarter-on-quarter.
As far as the price goes, the 3GB/32GB variant will cost CNY 999 (Rs 10,500 approx), while the 4GB/64GB variant will retail for CNY 1299 (Rs 14,000 approx). Redmi 5 and Redmi Note 5 doesn't come with a dedicated microSD card slot.

The AI enables the user to unlock the phone just using their face detection through the use of the front camera. The phones will only be available in three colors - Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver, and Rose Gold. The phone will run on Android 8.1 Oreo OS with the obvious skin of MIUI 9.5 customizations.
