FOX Revives Last Man Standing for Fridays, Shifts 9-1-1 to Mondays
Sinbad also stars and to immediately answer the question everyone will have whenever the name "Sinbad" appears, his last starring series was a quarter-century ago, on Fox. Fridays - the same time slot it occupied for five of six seasons before it was canceled last spring by ABC.
In a statement sent to Fox News on Friday, Allen said he was excited to begin filming Season 3. "We just think it's a really amusing show" with general appeal, he said in announcing the network's 2018-19 schedule with fellow chairman and CEO Dana Walden. Also at midseason, Gotham will air its fifth and final season.
The Resident leads off Mondays at 8 p.m., followed the return of 9-1-1, which ranks as the network's number one scripted series. It will be a lead-in for the new seriesThe Cool Kids. It's based on the life of Lil Rel Howery, who stars as a Chicago dad who finds out his wife is having an affair, and must rebuild his life as a single father, following a divorce.
"I'm not sure that I think that the cancellation had anything to do with politics", said Gary Newman, chairman and chief executive officer for Fox Television Group; he theorized that ABC was more interested in shows produced by its own studio.
"Obviously everyone took a good hard look at the performance of [that show]".
It nearly seemed that the awesome run of quite possibly the funniest show on television would end without a fight from anyone but the actors and the fans - at least until NBC stepped in and picked the show up.
"Charlie Day is someone that we've been huge fans of", Newman said. "We put it into development, and made a commitment to it right way". Two dramas make their debut then: "The Passage", in which a virus threatens to save or kill the human race, with Mark-Paul Gosselaar, and "Proven Innocent", with Rachelle Lefevre as a lawyer fighting for the wrongly convicted.
Fox canceled "Brooklyn Nine-Nine", which was rescued by NBC.
Thursdays are dedicated to football.
"The cancellation of 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine" "was based on a variety of factors", Walden said.
"Once we made that decision, it just limited the opportunities we had to schedule "Brooklyn" and ultimately, we decided we just didn't" have room for it.
"We've been talking to Tim throughout the year", she said.
The biggest change at Fox will be the addition of Thursday Night Football in the fall, pushing Seth MacFarlane's The Orville into a midseason return on December 30. "It performed best in our Sunday night lineup, and ... we wanted to give "Bob's Burgers" ... an opportunity to have a plum time period and to really grow. Scheduling 'Brooklyn' would have prevented us from launching something new".
