Brooklyn Nine-Nine will air in the spring of 2019 as part of the mid-season replacements.
"Brooklyn is a show our company produces for Fox, so it's a show that's very close to us", said NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt. The cop comedy has skated by with average ratings for the past few years, but despite the optimism of the cast and crew, the show has been canceled. Roseanne's success hinted to the network that there was still a market for that style of comedy series featuring one or two big-name comedians, like Roseanne Barr or, in Last Man Standing's case, Tim Allen.
NBC is perfecting the art of reviving canceled comedies with its pickup of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine". "Ultimately we decided we just didn't have room for it and were trying we're really happy its found a new home".
Alas, Fox pulled an un-cool, cool, cool move and dropped the series. The network needed to find the right spot for it, she said.
Despite its generally low ratings, Greenblatt said it's "one of the few comedies in recent years that does a robust global number, and it has a syndication upside, which a lot of shows don't have anymore".
Another fan tweeted: "The show [Brooklyn Nine-Nine] has recently gained a large following, great representation and clever humour yet you're giving bland shows like big bang theory their 12th season?" The longer a show is on, the more fans have latched onto and begun to love a show and its characters, which is why the cancellation of Brooklyn Nine-Nine earlier this week at the end of its fifth season was so devastating. "It's a really amusing show..." This year, with the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics added to its already strong prime-time lineup - "Sunday Night Football, "This Is Us, and "The Voice" - NBC has had an impressive, consistent lead in all key viewer metrics". No (although yes). The truth is a little more complicated, because NBC always had first dibs.
Joe Lo Truglio, who plays Charles Boyle, said it was the fans who had helped save the show.
And on Friday the show's executive producer Michael Schur took to Twitter to share the exciting news. "Well, just goes to show you - a lot can happen in a year".
