Thunderstorms are most likely from 3 p.m.to 7 p.m. across western Mass with an isolated storm possible during the early afternoon.
Wind gusts reached 108 miles per hour on the top of Mount Washington during the storm, as a line of thunderstorms passed through the state. A marginal and slight risk is the lowest and second lowest of the five severe weather categories, respectively.
Saturday night, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with a low of 64, according to the weather service.
"The area of greatest concern is across western and central MA into northern CT, but cannot rule out across the rest of the region", the weather service says in a hazardous weather statement.
"For now, we are forecasting mostly cloudy skies and highs in the mid to upper 60s", Haney said. Weekend rainfall totals were about an inch at O'Hare and about a half-inch at Midway.
The heaviest rain will fall between 4 and 9 p.m., the weather service said. In addition, it is possible that one or two of these severe storms could spin up a brief tornado as well.
A line of strong thunderstorms will affect Huron and Erie counties this morning. A potentially heavy rain event for Friday night and Saturday will move in, and this has a tropical connection so plentiful moisture will be available.
The best chance for strong thunderstorms is in northern Nassau County and northwest Suffolk County, meteorologists say.
Severe thunderstorm watches were issued for Nassau and Suffolk counties. Torrential rain could cause flooding in low-lying areas.
