Nursing community plays vital role in keeping India healthy: President Kovind

Addressing a function at Rashtrapati Bhawan on International Nurses Day, the President called nurses- true nation-builders.

Co-ordinated in the United Kingdom by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), events will be held across the country, including in Lincolnshire where the four Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) - East, South, South West, and West - are supporting plans to celebrate nurses.

Nagaland Governor P B Acharya in a message on the occasion of International Nurses Day 2018, "saluted the service and determination" of all nurses working in the public and private sector of the State.

CCGs will also be showing their support via their Facebook and Twitter feeds.

A press release by medical superintendent Longleng, Dr. Toshirenla stated that Dr. Waulong in his short speech spoke about the significance of International Nurses Day.

This year's theme focusing on health as a human right attempts to enable the nursing fraternity in recognizing the philosophical basis of nursing whether it is health promotion, illness or trauma prevention, or acute and chronic treatment.

"Nurses play a very important role in the lives of people and their dedication and services is recognised by all".

"The entire nation is grateful to the nursing community for their vital role in keeping the country healthy".

He said society may not acknowledge the sacrifices and service of the nurses with respect and rewards, he however reminded them there was nothing more satisfying than rendering services to needy people. A total of 35 awards i.e. 20 for Nurses, 12 for Auxiliary Nurse Mid-wives and 3 for Lady Health Visitors are being awarded to outstanding Nursing Personnel.

He said, Florence Nightingale had established nursing as a service to humanity and she motivated nurses to follow the path of dedication, commitment and compassion.

Also present at the award ceremony were, Arun Singhal, Additional Secretary (Health), Sanjeeva Kumar, Additional Secretary (Health) and Dr RK Vats, AS & DG (CGHS) along with other senior officers and invitees. The award carries a medal, a certificate, a citation certificate and Rs. 50,000/-in cash to each of the awardees.
