Three-time winners Leinster look to preserve their ideal European Champions Cup final record as they meet Racing 92 in Bilbao.

"It was a real arm wrestle".

"Having Dan Carter on your bench says it all", said Cullen, who shares the management duties with former England head coach Stuart Lancaster.

"He [Cullen] said before the game that we have a rich man's team, well, he has the Irish team, so we are a just poor man's team."

Despite Cullen's eagerness to paint Leinster as the underdogs who punch above their weight, Racing's France number eight Yannick Nyanga points out they have been backed to win by bookmakers. It was just discipline that let us down and a lack of communication in defence.

"We were very close".

"We had a big heart today, but that's not enough". South African Pat Lambie started at 10 but didn't last three minutes before injuring his knee, Remi Tales taking over.

Racing, also missing first-choice playmaker Maxime Machenaud, suffered a major blow when Carter, named on the replacements bench, was ruled out an hour before kickoff due to a hamstring injury.

They traded a couple more penalties before the interval after the French side defended aggressively, disrupting Leinster's usually well-oiled machine.

Johnny Sexton missed two penalty shots in the second-half while Racing scrum-half Teddy Iribaren missed his opportunity from the halfway line.

This time, Sexton made no mistake and booted his second penalty to again equalise the scores at 6-6 going into half-time.

Another Racing offside infringement was sanctioned by Wayne Barnes and winger Nacewa coolly slotted home the winning kick one minute from time.
