Sony's dual camera Xperia XZ2 Premium takes ultra-low-light photos
It is an upgrade to the original Sony Xperia XZ2 that was launched at MWC 2018 held in February this year. Then there's the camera, which now consists of two eyes - a 19MP + 12MP dual camera setup, where the 19MP sensor collects colour data and the secondary sensor captures in monochrome.
The display isn't the only thing with the HDR tag on this phone; the XZ2 Premium joins the standard XZ2 in offering 4K HDR video recording as well.
The design remains mostly identical to the XZ2 which includes the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, but nearly all the other specifications have been improved. Those settings enable ultra-low light image and video capture that Sony says was previously only available with interchangeable lens cameras. It also has with Smart Stamina and STAMINA modes for those moments when you want to squeeze every last minute out of your remaining charge. Moreover, you can also take photos with Bokeh Effect that blurs the background to help the subject stand out. This offers excellent low light performance at user's end. That means 4K HDR video recording (still a relative novelty), 960FPS slow-motion video capture at 1080p, stereo speakers and a Dynamic Vibration System that promises more than the usual buzzes from haptic feedback. Thanks to this display you can enjoy your own 4K HDR content (since this is the only smartphone capable of both creating and viewing 4K HDR). In terms of specs, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium has a 5.8-inch 4K HDR Triluminos display of 2160x3840p resolution with the X-Reality for mobile engine. The XZ2 Premium also has dual front-facing speakers, which the company claims are its loudest Xperia speakers ever, with S-Force Front Surround and Hi-res Audio. It also bears the 3.5mm audio jack. Both the front and rear are covered in Gorilla Glass 5 with curved edges, and IP65/68 water resistance is present as well.
Sony Xperia XZ2 went on-sale in the United Kingdom on April 6th 2018 for £699. It will run Android Oreo and will be available in either Chrome Black or Chrome Silver colors. For additional speed and efficiency XZ2 Premium has 6GB RAM.
However, those who signed-up to a 24-month mobile contract to get their hands on the new hardware will be disappointed to learn that Sony has teased the launch of an all-new Xperia XZ handset. There is also Qi wireless charging on board.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium price is not announced yet but since the XZ2 costs $800 for the unlocked, the newly announced Premium version could be costing more than $900.
