In his televised address from the White House on Friday evening, Trump said the USA was prepared to sustain economic, diplomatic and military pressure on Assad until the Syrian leader ends what Trump called a criminal pattern of killing his own people with internationally banned chemical weapons.
The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations is expected to announce a new round of economic sanctions against Russian Federation for its backing of Syrian President Bashar al Assad's alleged use of chemical weapons.
Russian Federation and Iran called the use of force by the United States and its allies a "military crime" and "act of aggression".
Meanwhile, Russia's ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin said that U.S. threats to use force in Syria is in violation of worldwide law.
"What kind of a nation wants to be associated with the mass murder of innocent men, women, and children?"
The strikes were condemned by Russian Federation.
"We are determined to completely crush ISIS and create the conditions that will prevent its return." she said, referring to the Islamic State extremist group.
More than 40 people are thought to have died following the attack on the rebel-held town of Douma, drawing worldwide condemnation and prompting Washington and its allies to consider a military response.
Syria has continued to deny any chemical weapons were used.
"As Secretary-General of the United Nations, it is my duty to remind Member States that there is an obligation, particularly when dealing with matters of peace and security, to act consistently with the Charter of the United Nations and with worldwide law in general", he told ambassadors, echoing a statement issued in the wake of the airstrikes.
"The worst apprehensions have come true. Our warnings have been left unheard".
"Insulting the President of Russian Federation is unacceptable and inadmissible", he added.
Overnight, US, British and French forces launched more than 100 missiles from ships and manned aircraft, targeting three of Syria's main chemical weapons facilities.
Joint airstrikes were launched in Syria by the US, UK and France on Saturday as punishment for a suspected chemical weapons attack in Douma.
Karen Pierce also labelled the Russian allegation as "grotesque", saying she wanted "to state categorically ... that Britain has no involvement and would never have any involvement in the use of a chemical weapon".
Russian and Iranian military help over the past three years has allowed Assad to crush the rebel threat to topple him.
"They will go directly to any sort of companies that were dealing with equipment related to Assad and chemical weapons use", Ambassador Nikki Haley told CBS' Face the Nation on Sunday.
"These strikes are not seeking to escalate the conflict in Syria, but these violations of worldwide law and norms can not be allowed to continue".

Man held for indulging in obscene act at woman's doorstep
As the wife could not not tolerate the torture some two months back she went to stay with her parents at Ghatkopar. It is even more shocking that Kuldeep's family remained silent despite knowing about the captive in their house.
