AMCNegan in The Walking Dead season 8 finale
At least Carl didn't die in vain.
Season 8 of The Walking Dead ended Sunday night with the zombie-apocalypse drama's two warring factions facing off in a field. But "Wrath" brings both groups out into an open field for the battle between the Saviors and Rick's group - or, rather, the battle between Rick and Negan.
The eighth season of The Walking Dead has been a long, slow build toward a final confrontation between Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), but their relationship is rather complicated.
It's easy to see why The Walking Dead chose to do this: it follows the comic books, it means they can keep Negan (a character the writers are now in the thrall of) around, and means they can still have Rick as their noble leader. Negan even added a cruel but ingenious touch, sending some of his men to slaughter at the hands of the Alexandria/Hilltop/Kingdom survivors to make the phony plans seem more real. Rick and the gang fell right into Negan's trap, finding themselves surrounded by heavily armed Saviors. AMC does offer free online streaming versions of each The Walking Dead episode shortly after premiere on TV at the official AMC website for a limited time, no cable required.
The battle turned immediately, but the disarmed enemies quickly surrendered and slaughter was avoided. Granted, he told him that if he ever turned up there again he would kill them.
Alden and the captured Saviors head outside the Hilltop walls to clear the walkers for when the group will roll out to battle.
It was later revealed that Rick's one-time ally Eugene, who was believed to have betrayed Rick and his group when he was captured by Negan, had actually sabotaged the weapons in order to save Rick and his old friends. But, a swift kick, a tearful invocation of Carl's philosophy of peace and a precision dagger swipe to the throat felled Negan. When asked if Strand is a good person, Domingo responded that he's not sure on that front, but doesn't want the character to die because he's awesome and very good at producing soundbites.
Instead, the show plays out in similar fashion to the comics, with Rick instructing Siddiq to save Negan's life, which he does despite the improbability of survival after losing so much blood.
This post contains spoilers for the Fear the Walking Dead Season 4 premiere, "What's Your Story?"
Do you think we'll have a big time jump when the show comes back? Initially, she was his hostage while he had surgery and then made a decision to move to Houston in a takeover bid that would see him as the Texan equivalent of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in Fear's companion program, The Walking Dead.
A serene Carol (Melissa McBride), realizing the value of community, returned to the Kingdom.
It has been long-known that "The Walking Dead" alum Lennie James will be transitioning to the AMC show's spin-off "Fear the Walking Dead". But is redemption even possible for a character like TV's Negan?
Rick tells the Saviors to put their hands down.
Maggie, however, wasn't on board with sparing Negan, telling Jesus that Rick and Michonne were wrong.
Also satisfying to see: Rosita punching Eugene for vomiting on her in the previous episode.
Throughout season eight, lots of people said lots of things. "Michonne, too", Maggie said. The villain is then sentenced to spending the rest of his time in the cell at Alexandria, to serve as a symbol for the life they're leaving behind, and that - except for a potential conflict with Maggie and Daryl - is that. Daryl emerged from the shadows saying, "Yeah".
