Former Prime Minister Koizumi sees embattled Abe quitting in June: magazine

"We agreed to carry out high-level visits, first with (Chinese Premier) Li Keqiang coming to Japan for a Japan-China-South Korea summit, then Prime Minister Abe visiting China and Xi Jinping visiting Japan", Kono told reporters after his meeting and working dinner with Wang in Tokyo.

Asia's two largest economies have motive to cooperate within the face of President Donald Trump's strikes to impose tariffs on imports from their worldwide locations and his calls for that they open their markets extra to American exports. China's bid to fix relations comes as the US threatens trade sanctions and a renewed emphasis on Taiwan ties.

These allegations come as the government faces a double scandal of favoritism that has seriously undermined Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's previously high popularity and prompted opposition calls for a resignation from MM. Coast guard and military ships from both countries continue to tail one another around the uninhabited Senkaku Islands, known as Diaoyu in China and Tiaoyutai in Taiwan.

A poll published in December found a marked fall in the percentage of respondents in Japan and China who saw ties between the two countries negatively.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi yesterday began a visit to Japan described as a major step forward in improving frosty relations, as Tokyo tries to stay involved in a flurry of global diplomacy over North Korea. Abe has expressed hopes the exchanges will presage a return to regular reciprocal visits between leaders of the two countries.

Wang said any parties, including Japan, welcome the recent important changes on the peninsula.

After revealing the falsification of documents concerning the sale of a state property at a price much lower than its market value, March polls showed a drop in the rate of support for Mr. Abe to the lowest since the legislative elections of October which had given him a large victory for a new mandate. "So they can use ties with Japan as a form of insurance".
