Saudi king rejects US plan to transfer embassy to Jerusalem
A summit of the Arab League has called for an global probe into the "criminal" use of chemical weapons in Syria and condemned what it said was Iran's interference in the affairs of Arab countries.
They will also condemn Iran's interference in the affairs of the Arab states as a stark violation to the global law and will urge Tehran to stop all provocative acts that undermine trust-building efforts and threaten regional stability and security, especially after Iran-backed Houthis escalated firing missiles against Saudi Arabia.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, whose government has denied using or possessing chemical weapons, was not present at the meeting after the country was suspended from the group in 2011.
THERE have been 40 summits of Arab leaders in the last 70 years.
They discussed the Syrian situation following the suspected chemical attack near the capital city of Damascus on April 7th and the US-led missile strikes against the country on Saturday.
During the summit, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz criticized Tehran's influence on Arab countries, claiming that it violated the principles of global law.
The question of Jerusalem is also likely to figure prominently at the summit as the United States prepares to move its embassy there from Tel Aviv after declaring the disputed city the capital of Israel in a break with decades of global diplomacy.
"We fully support military operations against military targets in Syria", the Saudi Foreign Ministry said.
He said Yemeni rebel Houthis, backed by Iran, had fired 116 missiles at the kingdom since Saudi Arabia went to war in Yemen three years ago to try and roll back Houthi gains there.
The summit will be attended by delegations from 21 of the Arab League's 22-member states.
Qatar did not send a senior official in a sign that its 10-month dispute with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt is still a long way from being resolved.
On Libya, the Arab leaders will stress their commitment to supporting the unity and sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the North African country, rejecting any interference in its affairs.
Its delegation was headed by its permanent representative to the Arab League, Saif bin Muqaddam al-Buainain, Qatar's state news agency said.
Sheikh Tamim returned to Doha on Saturday from a United States trip where he met Trump. It's not a big problem.
Ahead of the summit, the four boycotting nations said their demands - including closing the Al Jazeera television station and reducing ties with Iran - were "a necessary basis" for a resolution to the crisis with Qatar.
