The Trail Blazers did not play well in game one, however they still nearly managed to come back to win after falling behind 19 points in the third quarter.

Davis' performance continued as he finished the night with 35 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Additionally, he added six points on 3-of-9 shooting.

With the win, the Pelicans take a 1-0 lead in the series and became the first road team, and first underdog, to win in this year's NBA Playoffs. If Jusuf Nurkic can utilize some physicality on Davis and get the Pelicans off their game plan, the Blazers should be able to be successful. Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum sparked Portland's comeback with 34 of their combined 37 points coming after halftime, but it wasn't quite enough to put the Trail Blazers over the top. New Orleans is scoring an average of 111.7 points, good for third in the National Basketball Association. The Pelicans answered by pushing the lead back up to 14 points, but Portland refused to relent and made things close down the stretch. DeMarcus Cousins had 38 points and New Orleans extended its lead to as many as 18 points in the third quarter.

Because of how things worked out in the insane Western Conference this season, the Blazers will be facing the sixth-seeded Pelicans in the first round. Then, after two Davis free throws, Jrue Holiday blocked Pat Connaughton's layup to seal the 97-95 victory. "We ask him to try to get 20 points for us every night and we also ask him to guard the best perimeter player on the other team regardless of who it is".

After building a 19 point second half lead, the Trail Blazers went on a run, cutting the lead to 1 late, but missed two opportunities to take the lead. But late this season, he shaved his beard, joined the starting lineup and he's been thriving ever since, scoring no fewer than 21 points in a game during the Pelicans' season-ending five-game winning streak. Conversely, Lillard and McCollum played one of their worst halves of the season. The Trail Blazers could not find their shooting touch, shooting an abysmal 38% from the field, including a 12 for 39 mark from three-point range. Davis' Pelicans were swept in the first round of the 2015 playoffs by the eventual-champion Warriors.
