Feminists to stage rally at Ulster rugby match after rape acquittal

A rally calling for Ulster Rugby to address the behaviour of players takes place ahead of the club's first home match since the Belfast rape trial ended. The demonstration entitled'Stamp out Misogyny at Ulster Rugby, was organised by Belfast Feminist N

In late March, the pair were found not guilty of rape and sexual assault of a young woman after a lengthy trial in Belfast.

"Rugby Players Ireland acknowledges today's statements by the IRFU, Ulster Rugby, Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding".

The IRFU and Ulster Rugby have been carrying out a review into the players' future in the wake of their acquittal on rape charges last month. We too are committed to rugby's values of respect, integrity and inclusivity.

The IRFU have added that a review of the existing structures and educational programmes within the game will be carried out.

Paddy Jackson is set to make a swift return to rugby with French giants Clermont Auvergne said to be favourites to land the Ireland worldwide, according to The Sunday Times.

Around 250 people staged a protest outside Ulster Rugby's stadium on Friday night ahead of the team's first home game since the two players were acquitted of rape. It is therefore with great sadness and regret but with many cherished memories that I leave that behind.

Stuart Olding also issued a statement upon the release of his contract being terminated.

The IRFU and Ulster Rugby also revealed that Craig Gilroy has been sanctioned following a disciplinary process in relation to WhatsApp messages used as evidence during the trial.
