Bon Jovi will be inducted into the Rock Hall tonight along with The Moody Blues, Dire Straits, The Cars, Nina Simone, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

An inspiration to musicians from Elvis Presley to Johnny Cash, Tharpe was called "the godmother of rock and roll" Saturday night by Alabama Shakes lead singer Brittany Howard, who inducted one her biggest influences. Dave "Dino" DeNatale and Monica Robins went live on our site and on Facebook earlier today to give us the scene from the red carpet.

A two-hour red carpet event took place right before the ceremony began at 7:30 p.m.

Stay tuned for updates throughout the evening!

Featuring food from notable city chefs, it was a kind of calm before the ceremony storm (both literally and figuratively given thunderstorm predictions for Saturday) - albeit a loud kind of calm thanks to music from Philadelphia's Low Cut Connie, which covered favorites by Rock Hall inductees and also dedicated a version of Black Sabbath's "Changes" to the late Charles Bradley, who had covered the song.

"They were really struggling". "But, they were really struggling because they wanted to play their original material, but the bars wouldn't let them play it. Sometimes they'd play their own stuff, and the bars would boot them out".

The Cars have pulled into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Orr died in 2000 of pancreatic cancer, but his son, Ben, was on hand to celebrate his father's achievement.

Killers frontman Brandon Flowers will induct The Cars, whose four surviving members - Ric Ocasek, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes and David Robinson - will give a reunion performance.

"It's quite unusual to be here without him", Ocasek said.

"How fitting that we are in Cleveland, Ben's hometown".

With her confident stage presence and distortion on her guitar, Tharpe took gospel music to new audiences in the 1930s and 1940s, helping set the stage for rock "n" roll after World War II.

Dire Straits went into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame without its leader.
