Unnao gang-rape case Alleged threat call reveals how BJP MLA Sengar pressurised victim's family

HC asks UP govt The Allahabad High Court had come down heavily on the UP government on Thursday on the Unnao rape, asking whether it proposes to arrest accused MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

Sengar's lawyer said, "We support fair investigation".

The FIR against Sengar was filed on the basis of a preliminary report by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the state government to look into the case and check the veracity of the charges levelled by the rape victim against the MLA. "Investigation has been handed over to the CBI".

The case has already led to a political slugfest between the BJP and other parties and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said the people of state are living in fear.

"Naari Virodhi (anti-woman) Adityanath has not only utterly failed in his constitutional duties as the Chief Minister and abused the oath of office but also played an important protagonist in safeguarding the interests of the rape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar", he added.

Till the premier investigating agency takes over, the local police would continue with the probe, but a decision on whether the accused MLA from the ruling party would be arrested would be taken by the CBI, Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar said.

Besides the MLA, the CBI team grilled six suspended cops, incudling the SHO of Makhi police station in Unnao.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday issued a notice to the BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh's Bangarmau district over his freaky statement on Unnao rape case.

In the first FIR, the CBI named Sengar and Shashi Singh, a woman who allegedly took the rape victim to the leader's house.

Earlier, the victim, who along with her mother and uncle, were brought here under tight security in the morning, underwent tests at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.

Meanwhile, chief minister Yogi Adityanath, while talking on the Unnao rape case, reiterated that his government would follow a zero-tolerance policy on crime and corruption.

She also thanked the media and the CBI for taking up her battle that so far was a "lonely and losing battle".

Later, the state police had arrested her father who died in judicial custody with the autopsy suggesting several injuries on his body.
