The incredible Tiger Roll - remarkably a victor of the 2m Triumph Hurdle as a Juvenile - has won the 2018 Aintree Grand National at Aintree this afternoon, finishing ahead of Pleasant Company, Bless The Wings, and Anibale Fly.
Rider Davy Russell, who was on the eight-year-old, was confident throughout the four-and-a-quarter-mile race and cruised to the front in the home straight.
For Russell it was an emotional triumph coming just weeks after the death of his mother, and was the realisation of an ambition he had clung to since growing up as a child in County Cork.
We thought the outfits couldn't get better after the opening day of the festival, and Ladies Day yesterday, but we were wrong.
The runner-up - trained by Elliott's main rival in Ireland Willie Mullins - hit a low of [2.2] in the closing stages but the finishing post came just too soon for the 10-year-old as he went down by just a head.
'Tiger Roll really did tire on me, ' he added. I did fear I had been beaten.
Tiger Roll may have come in first at the Grand National but the real winners were all the fabulously dressed people.
Tiger Roll looked all over a victor at the elbow, but had to scramble for the post to hold off the Willie Mullins-trained Pleasant Company with another Elliott runner Bless The Wings in third.
