On Saturday evening, the agency arrested Shashi Singh, who is the mother of one of the Unnao gangrape accused, Shubham, and who is alleged to have lured the 17-year-old girl to the MLA's house before the rape. As per a report in the Times of India, the police will now match the call records of the accused and the victim and try to ascertain their locations at the time of calls. He was charged under sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (abduction of woman), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

A day after two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ministers offered their resignation, the party on Saturday claimed that the two alliance partners were working in coordination and there is no threat to the ruling PDP-BJP coalition in the state. The father died on April 9 during treatment while in judicial custody. Atul Singh and five other accused have been sent to jail, and the accused MLA has been sent to seven-day Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody.

The teen had accused the MLA of raping her in June a year ago.

An eight-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, drugged, raped, tortured and killed in January. The first FIR pertains to the alleged rape of the girl in which Sengar and Shashi Singh have been named as accused.

With opposition led by Congress mounting a massive attack, BJP's image has suffered a considerable blow. Speaking at a function to inaugurate a memorial to Dalit icon B R Ambedkar, Modi said, "The type of incidents that have been talked about in the last two days have shamed us as a nation and as a society". The chief minister said that she was in constant touch with BJP president Amit Shah and Madhav as well as Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

He said the high court was taken aback by the insensitive stand and callous attitude of the Advocate General, who represented the state government in court and received his brief from the highest levels. "Therefore, keeping in mind the perception and general situation, the two BJP leaders, after holding consultations with the prime minister and other senior leaders of the party, made a decision to submit their resignations".
