Shenmue I and II Remasters set for 2018 Release

Nonetheless, fans of the series, and those that have never had the chance to play them before, have been calling for a re-release of the games for some time.

The original Shenmue launched on the Sega Dreamcast in 2000 while the sequel launched in 2002. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will have both physical and digital copies, while the PC version will be available through Steam. While this is merely a re-release and not a remaster, these more powerful systems will likely allow a game series that was ahead of its time to finally feel like it was meant to.

Sega, thankfully, is now looking to deliver on that suggestion.

Along with announcing a new micro-console, Sega has excited gamers by sharing the news that Shenmue and Shenmue II are to be released on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One sometime in 2018. In Japan, it will release on the PlayStation 4 only.

Shenmue I and II Remasters set for 2018 Release

In a campaign called ShenmueSaved SEGA stated this re-release will include both Japanese and English voice actors, modern or classic controls, and more.

The bundle isn't just a straight port of the original games, either. It might not be a ground-up reworking, but it looks like there's enough here to bring the games up to modern standards.

Regarding the Shenmue 3 release date, there has been an very bad lot of silence.

This re-release comes at the flawless time, as Shenmue III is now in development, and this port will be ideal to help gamers relive or catch up with the Shenmue trilogy.
